Abbey Friedline, wife, mom of 2 and creator of Mom Covid, opens up about her journey of motherhood. Being a mom can be incredibly challenging. How do you make yourself a priority when you’re in the trenches, raising babies? How do you keep your marriage alive? How do you make friends as a mom?
Becoming a new mom is a major shift in a women’s life. We have to learn to let go of plans, ideals and our own expectations to make a new way. There’s always something new to being a mom. Raising kids can often feel like trying to hit a moving target because every single day you are a raising a new version of your child. Abbey uses this as a way to excuse herself from being a ‘perfect mom’ and take each day as a learning experience. She encourages other moms to do the same.
Let Your Cup Overflow
It’s so important to not loose yourself or your marriage while raising kids. Abbey wants to help protect and foster the women behind the ‘mom’ and ‘wife’ titles. “You can’t fill from an empty cup,” she says. “It’s so important to make sure your cup is filled and continues to stay filled so it naturally overflows. Imagine a faucet continually running into a glass of water. You leave the faucet on so that the cup overflows rather than turning the water off and tipping yourself over and emptying yourself.”
What fills you? How can you add to yourself each day, throughout the day so you have overflow to love your people best?
We can be overwhelmed as new moms, constantly flooded with advice. Abbey says, “The best advice she could give to new moms? Don’t take advice!”. There’s so many opinions, but you need to trust your gut and do what is best for you and your family.
When the Covid pandemic hit, Abbey’s mind started churning. How could she create a virtual community as more and more things are being placed on moms’ plates right now? How could she pour into moms and gather resources to help mom’s thrive in this season? A Facebook community, ‘Mom Covid’ was born. Mom Covid is a community where together, we can encourage each other, pursue our best selves with no expectation, no mom guilt, leaving the day before in the dust and starting each day fresh.
What message do moms need to hear most in motherhood? Moms, get ready to be heard, seen and loved well…this episode is jam packed with so much for you. Grace. Tune in now to hear Abbey share her heart’s desire for all moms to extend themselves grace as we journey motherhood, together.
