Palms sweating. Pulse rising. Mind racing. Limbs shaking.
What does that to you? Public speaking? Stepping out of the shadows? Finally flipping the switch and going for it? A first date? Sharing your final product with the world for the first time? Taking the stage? Speaking your mind? Letting go?
Do you think it’s possible that the one thing that scares you most is the exact thing you should do?
Our mind can have trouble deciphering the difference between ‘fight’ or ‘flight’. The adrenaline rush, the body’s physical symptoms, the release of hormones. It can be easy to shift our gut instinct from what we’re meant for to what we flea from. What if we justified our body’s reaction as a reason to stay comfortable and retreat? If we always take sweaty palms and shaking voices as a reason to flea we would never fulfill the very thing we are called to and meant for. Just because the thing that scares you requires you to walk through fear doesn’t mean you should stall, it means it’s asking how bad do you want this? How much do you care? This will require stepping over adversity, can you do that? It’s a test, not a dead end.
Can I let you in on a secret? Fear is a liar.
Fear is trying to hold you captive. Don’t let it. If fear can keep the world from pursuing greater, it will. If fear can convince others they are lacking, it will. If fear can hold people hostage from achieving success, it will.
How do we move through fear and fight through to what’s meant to be ours? Action. Action solves all problems. Take a step. Open your mouth. Do the very thing that feels hardest to do.
Last week things were feeling heavy and hard. My mind was full of self doubt and I seemed to be questioning the very thing I felt called to. I was asked to speak at an event that same week and felt like I might not be the girl for the job. But I did it anyways. I showed up. I stepped on stage. I opened my mouth. Were my knees shaking, heart beating quickly? Yes! Did I want to run and hide? Yes! But I did it scared, like I do 90% of the things in my life because I refuse to let fear take anything from me.
What ‘treasure’ do you seek? What cave do you need to explore to find it? Don’t shut down when your body tells you to run. Take it as a sign and reason to lean in, take action and push through.
